NZ Road Trip: South To Kaikoura
We are seriously beginning to think that there isn’t a single drive in this country which is anything less than spectacular. From Motueka on the edge of Abel Tasman we retrace our steps though Nelson city and Marlborough wine country then, turning south past Blenheim we are suddenly confronted by terrain completely different from all previous scenery: large barren hills devoid of greenery, the first treeless tracts of land so far. Nostalgia Trip #5: Ceredigion Coast, Wales And Dolphins
Waking on our first morning in Aberaeron is just idyllic. Our window at the Harbourmaster Hotel looks past the boats snuggled in the harbour to the cottages opposite, their multiple pastel shades reminiscent of Ireland and resplendent in the morning sunlight. The sound of mast ropes clinking in the light breeze is the only thing that breaks the silence as Aberaeron wakes slowly from its slumbers. Our first wander around town includes a short amble upstream along the banks of the Aeron which brings its own rewards. Sea Life Safari
Pictures speak louder than words for today’s post, as we head out on a sea life safari taking in uninhabited Atlantic islets and spectacular sections of the craggy coastline. It’s an excellent excursion where we encounter large numbers of dolphins who follow us in a display of what our guide calls “bow riding”, as well as multiple sightings of seals, guillemots, razorbills, gannets and other seabirds. The sun shines, the Atlantic is calm and Michaela is able to capture some very decent shots…..
