Indonesia – Jakarta, Java

We have just spent a few days in Jakarta, Java, the capital of Indonesia. A sprawling city with a handful of interesting places to visit, however the traffic is unbelievable and with a useful metro system still under construction, travelling between areas is extremely time consuming by taxi, tuk tuk is marginally quicker. Anyway Kota Tua (old town) is dominated by Dutch colonial buildings. Its square is full of life, colourful bicycles to rent, live music and happy people is the theme and as usual we (rather me) are stopped by locals for selfies on numerous occasions as usually happens in Asia (I guess its the blonde hair! 😆) other notable places to visit are Glodok (China Town) with is many temples and traditional tea houses, also the National Monument which commemorates independence from the Netherlands. A bit city’d out now, tomorrow we are heading for adventure, Borneo here we come!

What a lovely and interesting present to get for the weekend! Michaela, as usual, you have managed to reach across the spectrum of what you have seen and give us glimpses of present-day life not just buildings well-known from news. Have never been . . . for some reason Jakarta has never invited strongly enough . . . but here > teahouses. temples, markets and bikes . . . real life . . . actually my favourite photo is of you with the two lovely local lasses behaving in a manner you can see all over the world . . . and love the one who managed to get in the shot 🙂 ! Can’t wait to see more . . . keep safe . . .

My cousin worked in Indonesia for 8 years. She loved it and could easily go back. Even though its my country’s nearest neighbour, few Aussies travel there, apart from Bali, of course. Interesting buildings!

I love the photo of you with those two girls Michaela 🙂 The city looks interesting for a few days despite the challenges of getting around. I’ve already seen your orangutan photos on Facebook and can’t wait to hear and see more about your adventures there!

Annie gets those selfies taken too. The young girls always seem to enjoy taking them and I know Annie thinks they’re fun. We never visited Jakarta so I was glad to read about it. We spent our time on Java visiting Yogyakarta and the surrounding area. Looking forward to Borneo…so exciting.
    Stay safe,
    Steve

We’d love to hear from you
