Bali – beaches, temples and mountains
Our base now on Bali is the coastal town of Sanur. Just the right amount of tourism here for us, plenty of restaurants but without the rowdiness of some of the other resorts on this part of the Island and beautiful beach. Our home is like a palace, traditional balinese house complex and tranquil garden just for us, it’s huge! Up early this morning for a fabulous sunrise.
A visit to two of Bali’s most important temples took us through lush agricultural regions through traditional villages and into the mountains, just beautiful. Besakih temple is the most important one in Bali and Lempuyang the highest altitude temple and number 2 on the importance scale. We reached a 3rd temple, Goa Lawah (more commonly known as bat temple) at dusk, to witness an enormous amount of bats as they prepared to leave the cave for their nightly feeding sortie. It was a frenzied mass of movement. Anyway, we have seen some of the real Bali as well as some of the touristy bits and we have loved Sanur as a beach base. Now it’s time to move on but just a short ferry ride to our next island base of Nusa Lembongan.

That looks a wonderful place to stay – both the town of Sanur in general and that beautiful house in particular! The temples all look great too, as does the Balinese countryside 🙂
