Ending The Year

Well, happy new year to everyone, let’s hope it’s a good one. Given that you read our site, then it’s safe to assume you’re interested in travel; our best wish for all people interested in travel is that we are now nearing the time when we can get out and see the world again.

Aberaeron, Wales

For those who are hesitating to make a decision, we have travelled as much as possible during these last two difficult years and we haven’t felt any more unsafe whilst travelling than we have back home. We haven’t mentioned in our posts that we BOTH caught COVID (thankfully only very mild symptoms) – and we caught it at a family gathering in England, not whilst travelling!

Koufonisi, Greece

Now here we are on the last day of the year, in Costa Rica. Our original retirement plans may have been blown apart (and we are yet to cross borders whilst away), but we’ve done what we can.

2021 looked like this…

Days travelling out of the UK – 107 (Greece 84, Lithuania 5, Costa Rica 18)

Days travelling within UK – 45

Total – 152

In 2020, we managed 148 days out of the UK so a drop this year but not too bad in the circumstances.

Vilnius, Lithuania

Back to 2021….we visited 17 Greek islands and three capital cities, four if you count London. We’ve slept in 47 different beds and, with one day left, we’ve walked 1,150 miles over those 152 days, an average of 7.62 miles per day.

Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

We’re starting 2022 in Costa Rica, and really hoping that as the year unfolds we inch further towards our original travel goals. Costa Rica is for both of us our 45th country visited (38 of them together), so there’s plenty more to go!

Happy New Year to everyone….and, avoiding saying “stay safe”, we’ll say…be happy!
