A Perfect Day in Constable Country

It is almost 100 days since COVID-19 put a halt to our travels and forced us to return home to England. During that time we have stayed close to home and enjoyed our local countryside and seafront walks, but now we are seeing light at the end of the tunnel, restrictions gradually being lifted and once again we have our sights set on travel in the not too distant future.

Today was a landmark day for me, Michaela. With Phil and I living in Kent and my Mum living in Suffolk, the restrictions had prevented us from seeing her…. until today.

I last saw my Mum on 23 January, 5 months ago, today I drove the 105 mile journey to meet up with her for the day in the beautiful Essex village of Dedham.  The excitement was huge, the reunion emotional, the day beautiful. We walked, we talked, we had a picnic. The location was perfect for such a day, beautiful Dedham Vale countryside dotted with quintessential English villages, this area was home to the famed artist John Constable and was the location for his iconic works “The Haywain” and “Flatford Mill”. The farm buildings featured on both remain to current times, instantly recognisable from those famous images. This was a perfect day.

I am so glad you have finally managed to see your mother. We are also grateful to finally meeting up with our daughter, who lives in Brighton. We are yet to see our son. The virus has kept so many families apart, but things are getting better. Fingers crossed we can resume our travels soon 🙂

What a pretty place to meet your mom. I still have yet to see mine as she’s much further away and until recently we couldn’t travel between provinces. Glad you’re posting again.

Hi there, thank you for reading. It’s been such a strange time, having had to end our travels so abruptly and then unable to see family. But now things are on the move, it looks like we are allowed to travel from next week so we are eagerly awaiting confirmation as to which countries we can visit. But to start with we will stay close to home, probably around the Mediterranean, maybe Spain to start with and the blogging will start again. Happy travels 😁

You’re more adventurous than us, we’re planning on spending our time traveling at home in Canada. Lots to see here, so I shouldn’t complain! Stay safe.

We’d love to hear from you
