It’s 2020: Our Year Of Destiny Dawns

So we are now, officially, a retired couple, our working lives done and dusted and behind us. And with the New Year dawning today, it’s precisely four weeks until our dream comes true and we start our long term travels around the world. January 29th is the date on which the first leg of our travels begin, when we are due to arrive in Bangkok and set foot in Thailand for the first time in our lives.

The last few weeks have been – well – different. With Michaela on midweek tours of the UK visiting family in Lowestoft, Birmingham and Gosport, my final spell of work was punctuated regularly with farewell lunches and drinks with clients, staff and other associates, culminating in one huge party on my last night. It’s fair to say that beer has played a significant role. If there has been a need to bid a fond farewell to English ale before we set off to see the world, then I think I’ve done it justice.

So it’s now down to four weeks of final preparation, though in reality most things are now in place, with just a few last details like currency to finalise. There’s still a few more farewells with friends and family to come through January, including a few days in our beloved Padstow and a couple of trips to London.

But in truth it’s four weeks of excitement and anticipation building as we embark on our great adventure. Who knows how long this will last, how many countries we will visit, what things we will see.

Just four weeks and the adventure begins.
