Counting out Time

Map of our intended travels in South East Asia including Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore

Our dreams are coming true, but the waiting is weird. Excitement and impatience, anticipation and the unknown all mix as time ticks towards D-Day. So we’re around four months away from retirement- Michaela at the end of November, Phil in December- and the first part of our major travel adventure starts in January and is already booked.

We’re counting out time, trying not to wish our lives away, but it’s impossible to pretend we haven’t changed, because being on the threshold of a dream as big as this is a once in a lifetime experience. So much so that we’ve almost been overlooking our next holiday, which is less than 2 weeks away now.

And suddenly that holiday is upon us; suddenly we’re checking ferry routes and bus timetables, thinking of fresh fish and retsina, long days of sun. But we know that part of our thoughts are a few months beyond, when our working lives are behind us, and we really have started to live our dream.

So the August holiday, and the next adventure, is 3 or 4 Cycladic islands followed by a few days in Athens, a city we have each visited in previous lives but are yet to see together.

And then, when the Grand Tour begins in January, our first trip will be four months in South East Asia, taking in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore.

We are on the threshold of a dream. And counting the days.

We’d love to hear from you
