After leaving Phil at the airport for his boys trip to Spain, I headed to Lowestoft in Suffolk to spend a few days with my Mum, needless to say it was a somewhat more sedate trip than Phil’s. So many trips to our English east coast have been blighted by the English weather but on this occasion I was lucky enough to have beautiful blue skies for most of the time. If someone asks you to name ten English castles, our guess is that unless you live in Suffolk, you won’t have Framlingham on your list. Certainly we didn’t know much about it and only stumbled on it this week whilst fitting in a last minute visit to Michaela’s Mum before we head off to Greece, yet it turned out to be an interesting destination. Like many of England’s castles, Framlingham was granted to and confiscated from the gentry in equal measure depending on whether the monarch required the support of the local barons. Reunion In Constable Country
Dedham Vale is one of those quintessentially English locations full of charm and full of history; the countryside is gentle yet beautiful, the villages within the Vale the stuff of picture postcard perfection. You could film a period costume drama here without changing anything except the traffic. Straddling the boundary between the counties of Essex and Suffolk, this is where the world famous artist John Constable was born, lived most of his life, and was of course the subject of a large number of his most famous works. Michaela on tour – week one
Well it’s finally arrived, I (Michaela) have retired! As of Friday 29 November I am now a lady of leisure and doing final preparations before starting out on our travels to South East Asia. Phil doesn’t retire until 20th December so in the meantime I am on tour spending quality time with family in various parts of England. So while Phil is busy finishing up at work I am on the first part of my tour, in Lowestoft with my Mum and will be out and about in Suffolk and Norfolk for a few days.
